Aberdeen vs Strasbourg | Conference League Highlights: Godo Goal Dims Dons' Hopes (2026)

Aberdeen's European dreams are over! A heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Strasbourg, courtesy of Martial Godo's first-half strike, has extinguished any remaining hope of the Dons progressing in the UEFA Conference League. This match was a rollercoaster of near misses and heroic saves, ultimately ending in disappointment for the home side.

The game started with Aberdeen on the front foot, their aggressive pressing style immediately putting Strasbourg's defense under pressure. Within the first 90 seconds, they'd already earned two corners, signaling their intent. This early pressure created several promising chances throughout the first half, with Stuart Armstrong playing a pivotal role in Aberdeen's attacking endeavors.

Early on, Armstrong intercepted a loose ball and fed Marko Lazetic, whose shot was blocked. From the resulting corner, Nicky Devlin's flick went wide. Strasbourg, however, proved they were a threat, with Godo's run setting up Kendry Paez, whose shot was well-saved by Dimitar Mitov.

Aberdeen thought they had the lead in the 14th minute when Mats Knoester headed in from an Armstrong corner, but a VAR check ruled it out for a handball. The first half saw both teams creating opportunities, with Aberdeen's attack constantly testing the Strasbourg defense.

But here's where the story takes a turn: against the run of play, Strasbourg struck. Sam Amo-Ameyaw's pass split the Aberdeen defense, finding Godo, who coolly slotted the ball past Mitov.

The second half was a tale of missed opportunities and incredible saves. Mitov, Aberdeen's goalkeeper, was the hero, making three outstanding saves, including one from a penalty spot, to keep his team in the game.

The home side continued to press, with Dylan Lobban's determination creating chances. However, their efforts were repeatedly thwarted. Strasbourg had a golden opportunity to extend their lead when Devlin fouled Godo in the area, resulting in a penalty. But Mitov rose to the occasion, saving the penalty and keeping Aberdeen's hopes alive.

And this is the part most people miss... Despite Mitov's heroics, Aberdeen couldn't find an equalizer. The final whistle confirmed their elimination from the competition.

Aberdeen's last Conference League match is against Sparta Prague, a game that will be played on Thursday at 8 PM.
