NSN Cycling has already made a bold statement by signing Biniam Girmay, one of road cycling's hottest talents. Girmay, an Eritrean rider, won the prestigious green jersey at the Tour de France in 2024, and his addition to the team is a sign of NSN's ambition.
But here's the part most people miss: cycling is an incredibly expensive sport. Teams have to transport cyclists, support staff, and equipment around the globe for almost a year, and they often foot the bill themselves. With no television rights money to rely on, teams need deep pockets to compete with the top dogs, who operate on budgets of around 50 million euros per season.
Israel Premier Tech, NSN's predecessor, had the funds but struggled to maintain sponsor and fan support, especially with the political tensions surrounding the Israel-Gaza war. NSN, with its Swiss registration and Spanish structure, aims to navigate these challenges and make its mark on the cycling world.
"Cycling is a beautiful sport, but it's also a deceptive hobby due to its high costs," Iniesta reflects. "We're excited to take on this challenge and show what we can achieve."
