In the bustling city of Chennai, India, a migrant businessperson and their family found themselves in need of a home that could provide both privacy and a sense of openness. The architects at Matharoo Associates took on this complex task, and the result is nothing short of extraordinary.
The Challenge: A Tight Space
Imagine a narrow site, just 41 by 102 feet, surrounded by houses on three sides and a towering apartment complex on the other. This was the canvas for the architects to work their magic. With limited natural light and ventilation, and a desire for privacy, the design had to be both functional and visually appealing.
The Solution: Creative Geometry
Matharoo Associates approached this challenge with a unique perspective. They utilized the concept of 'cut, bend, and fold' to create a dynamic and playful space. The house is a masterpiece of architectural geometry, with carefully crafted cuts and folds that maximize natural light and create interesting indoor-outdoor connections.
