The Pittsburgh Steelers are at a crossroads, but their 2026 NFL Draft strategy could be the game-changer they desperately need. With a staggering 12 draft picks—thanks to projected compensatory selections—the franchise has a golden opportunity to rebuild and rejuvenate their roster. But here's where it gets controversial: can they truly address all their needs in just three rounds? PFF’s Trevor Sikkema and Connor Rogers think so, and their mock draft is a bold blueprint for transformation.
In a move that’s unprecedented for the Steelers, Sikkema and Rogers have them selecting Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion at No. 21 overall. Pair that with the potential free-agent signing of Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs, and suddenly, the Steelers’ receiving corps looks like a powerhouse. “Imagine DK Metcalf, Romeo Doubs, and KC Concepcion lining up together,” Sikkema said. “Add Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington out of the backfield, and you’ve got a passing game that’s hard to stop.”
But this is the part most people miss: the Steelers’ offense is likely to shift away from the tight end-heavy strategy of former coach Arthur Smith. That means more 11 personnel and a greater reliance on receivers. Concepcion, who transferred from NC State to Texas A&M in 2025, caught 61 passes for 919 yards and nine touchdowns—consistent numbers that make him a top prospect in a strong receiver class.
Defense takes center stage in the next two rounds. Toledo safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is the second-round pick, a versatile player who can excel in multiple roles. “He’s physical, has range, and can cover in the slot,” Rogers noted. “He’s a perfect fit for a Chris Shula-type defense.” McNeil-Warren’s senior stats—77 tackles, 5.5 for loss, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and a half-sack—speak to his all-around talent. With Pittsburgh’s safety position in need of youth and depth, he could even challenge for a starting role if the new coaching staff moves on from FS Jalen Ramsey.
In the third round, Miami (FL) cornerback Keionte Scott is the pick. A rock-solid playmaker, Scott had a breakout 2025 season after transferring from Auburn, recording career-highs in tackles (64), tackles for loss (13), and sacks (5), while returning two interceptions for touchdowns. “He’s a dog and a playmaker,” Sikkema said. “Exactly what Pittsburgh needs.”
The final two third-round picks focus on the trenches. Indiana OT Carter Smith, who has 40 career starts, could slide inside to center or remain at tackle, depending on the Steelers’ needs. “He’s played so well at left tackle, but I could see him thriving inside,” Sikkema said. Texas Tech DL Skyler Gill-Howard rounds out the mock draft. Despite a foot injury limiting his 2025 production, Gill-Howard’s 2024 numbers (8 TFL, 5 sacks) show his potential as a pass rusher—a critical addition with Cam Heyward’s future uncertain.
