Get ready for an exciting shift in the world of MotoGP! Toprak Razgatlioglu's transition from Superbike to Yamaha MotoGP is a game-changer, but it's not as simple as it seems.
During his MotoGP test in Aragon, Razgatlioglu had a promising start, but here's where it gets controversial: he won't be relying on his Superbike braking techniques. Augusto Fernandez, Yamaha's test rider, believes Razgatlioglu's talent in braking is exceptional, but he'll need to adapt his style.
"His strongest skill is definitely braking," Fernandez shared. "But he won't brake like in Superbike. His talent is incredible, and he'll find a new way to be fast in braking."
The real challenge, according to Fernandez, is understanding the tyres. "The tyres are key to adapting, especially the front," he explained.
Razgatlioglu's first test was generally positive, but his lap times were slower than the grand prix earlier this year. However, Fernandez and Aleix Espargaro, another test rider, also faced similar challenges.
"I was pleasantly surprised by his performance," Fernandez said. "His riding was not bad, and he wasn't far off the pace."
Espargaro echoed Fernandez's sentiments, adding, "I had a wrong image of him as a hard rider, but he's a nice guy, and his on-track performance was impressive given the difficult conditions."
And this is the part most people miss: MotoGP is a whole new ball game. As Fernandez puts it, "MotoGP riding is different. The lap times in Aragon were slow for everyone, but testing conditions are unique."
So, will Razgatlioglu's talent translate to MotoGP success? Only time will tell. What do you think? Is this a smart move by Yamaha, or will Razgatlioglu struggle to adapt? Let's discuss in the comments!
